About This Course

Respond to Fire Incidents in the Workplace is designed to equip learners with the essential skills to manage a minor fire emergency that may occur in any workplace setting.
Learners will be trained to stay calm under pressure, follow the correct response procedures, and take appropriate action to safely extinguish a small, containable fire.

The programme also covers proper fire extinguisher handling techniques, along with key safety precautions to reduce fire risks and prevent fire hazards.

What You'll Learn

Interpret workplace emergency response procedures and understand your role during a fire incident (raise alarm, evacuate, report, assist).

Identify common fire hazards in workplace environments and recognise early warning signs of fire escalation (smoke, heat, unusual smells, equipment overheating).

Conduct a quick situation assessment to determine fire size, fire class, surrounding risks, and whether it is safe to attempt extinguishment or evacuate immediately.

Demonstrate correct use of fire protection systems such as manual call points, fire alarms, hose reels, fire blankets, emergency exits, and basic fire compartmentation awareness.

Select the correct firefighting equipment based on the fire type (e.g., electrical, flammable liquids, combustible solids) and understand the limitations of each extinguisher.

Operate a portable fire extinguisher safely and effectively using correct technique (PASS method), safe approach distance, and correct discharge direction.

Respond to a small, controllable fire incident calmly and systematically, applying safe firefighting steps while protecting yourself and others.

Apply key fire safety precautions before, during, and after firefighting actions (isolation of power, keeping an exit route behind you, avoiding smoke inhalation, preventing re-ignition).

Support evacuation and crowd control by guiding colleagues to safe assembly areas and preventing unsafe re-entry into the affected zone.

Handover the incident to the appropriate authority (e.g., Fire Warden, Supervisor, SCDF responders) and provide clear operational information such as location, fire type, actions taken, and any casualties or hazards present.
