This programme aims to advance knowledge through education and research. The programme provides opportunities for students to conduct applied research, underpinned by an advanced training in GIS technologies and an awareness of discussions and praxis that characterise contemporary geography and related disciplines, aimed at addressing questions of relevance to the social and environmental sciences in Singapore or abroad. Combined with the powerful spatiotemporal data handling and analysis capabilities of GIS, the programme is primed to provide students with the tools they will need in order to advance understanding.

The programme of Master of Science in Applied Geographic Information Systems is designed to reflect the cutting-edge technologies and latest developments in GIS. This innovative programme provides an exciting opportunity for the prospective students to study at NUS to further practical career in applied GIS or related disciplines, or as a pathway to PhD. We offer two tracks of training (Project Track and Thesis Track). The Project Track includes a GIS project component. It is suited for students who require practical GIS skills or an upgrade to their existing GIS expertise to progress their careers. The Thesis Track includes a research thesis component, which covers thesis preparation and the GIS research thesis itself. It is suited for students with interests in applied GIS research and developing their research skills.
