About This Course
On completion of the unit, the learner will be equipped with the basic knowledge of surface preparation using power tools, perform blasting and painting in order to protect surface from corrosion and enhance surface finishing in a process plant, which covers the following competency elements:
1. Carry out work preparation in accordance with Workplace Safety and Health legislation and organizational procedures
2. Perform surface preparation before blasting
3. Perform blasting operation
4. Perform painting application
5. Perform maintenance work on equipment used
What You'll Learn
1. Comply with the legal requirements of WSH (Abrasive Blasting) Regulations 2008, related regulations and organizational safe work procedures.
2. Comply with Permit-to-Work (PTW) system in process plant.
3. Identify common hazards related to blasting and painting work in process plant.
4. Select appropriate personal protective equipment related to the hazards exposed when performing the task.
5. Cleaning for surface preparation
6. Check on standard of prepared surface
7. Safe handling of appropriate tools and equipment for performing task
8. Setting up of blasting equipment
10. Check on blasted surface for defects
11. Setting up of painting tools and equipment
12. Comply to paint mixing procedures
13. Carry out types of paint applications
14. Carry out check on painted surface for defects
15. Carry out cleaning of blasting tools and equipment
16. Carry out cleaning of painting tools and equipment
17. Carry out housekeeping duties at work area
