About This Course

The aim of the course is to understand how to evaluate the causal impact of a policy and how to choose the best method depending on the type of policy and on the context. To do so, this course introduces experimental and quasi-experimental methods for scientific evaluation of the impact of public policies and explains why these methods are necessary. It helps policy makers, industrial practitioners, media workers, and academic researchers to answer two questions: (1) If a policy has been carried out, how does one scientifically quantify its impacts? (2) If a policy is going to be implemented, how to implement it to facilitate convincing impact evaluation in the future?

What You'll Learn

The aim of this course is to introduce the major theoretical perspectives and emprical knowledge of population aging, in order to develop a holistic view on meanings and implications of population aging in realms of society, government and market. Students are expected to identify potential oppurtunities in the social and businness domains due to the trends of population aging. All topics are addressed in a multidisciplinary way, covering biomedical, psychological, socioeconomic, and environmental dimensions of human aging, and numerous empirical examples and illustrations are offered through a perspective of international comparisons with the specific context of Singapore.
