Piano Pedagogy
About This Course
(1) This course trains piano teachers in pedagogical skills, which are essential in commercial music schools that demand new teachers to be well-versed in lesson planning, organize student activities, and are innovative and effective in their teaching to cater to students from beginners to advanced levels. In addition, owners of commercial music schools might themselves seek pedagogical training.
(2) It also serves the purpose of job development and upgrading especially for seasoned teachers who might not have had the chance to properly study and upgrade themselves in higher education, as such institutions were not available in Singapore. By gaining this pedagogical exposure, teachers become more credible and confident in their abilities. They can continue to reflect, explore, devise new teaching methods, and fine-tune their techniques.
(3) With more than 65,000 students each year taking the external Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music graded music exams where piano candidates form the bulk, this course also provides vital skills upgrading for their teachers, and increases their employability.
To coach and mentor our young musicians of tomorrow to not only be proficient in music but also appreciate the arts, it is necessary to have pedagogically trained piano teachers to lay a good foundation and develop them holistically to have a passion for music and become a supporter of the arts.
