Principles of Learning & Teaching in the Professions (Synchronous & Asynchronous)
About This Course
Without some framework for understanding how to approach university teaching, teachers often default to the way they have been taught. Over the past twenty years, there has been a great deal of research into how students at university (and adult learners) learn. Some aspects of traditional teacher-centred teaching are less effective than student-centred instructional approaches that create an environment in which students learn actively. The emphasis in this course is, therefore, on student learning and what students do. This course proposes to open up the field of student learning as a way of providing the means to think about teaching and curriculum design.
