About This Course

"At the end of the course, students are expected to:
1. Develop a critical understanding of what is needed to enable people with disability to live with dignity and independence and to consider how society might have to reinvent itself from a social justice perspective.

2. Demonstrate practice competence in preserving the dignity and worth of persons with disabilities.

3. Develop a critical understanding and applying the working knowledge of assisting persons with disabilities to be independent

4. Demonstrate enhanced ability to influence society at large in reinventing the ability to include persons with disabilities to be active participants of our society."

What You'll Learn

This module introduces students to social work in the field of disability. The concepts of disability and impairment are examined from different vantage points as are the implications they engender. Prevailing ideas about disability and rehabilitation, principally from the medical and helping professions, are examined as are the lived experience of people with disabilities over the life span against the context of existing provisions.

A Bachelor degree in any discipline and minimum 3 years of working experience as Social Service Practitioner
