About This Course
This course is for low wage workers (LWWs) in the PWM–Waste Management (Materials Recovery) sector with the following PWM job roles:
- Senior Sorter (Materials Recovery)
- Machine Operator (Materials Recovery)
- Team Lead (Materials Recovery)
- Supervisor (Materials Recovery)
What You'll Learn
LO1. Identify types of waste for recycling and disposal
LO2. Identify types of heavy machinery and automated systems used in waste sorting
LO3. Identify Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for operating different machinery
LO4. Describe parts of relevant laws and regulations
LO5. Describe organisational procedures for waste sorting
LO6. Perform waste sorting in accordance with organisational procedures and guidelines
LO7. Operate machinery to load waste
LO8. Report to appropriate person if work cannot be carried out
LO9. Maintain machinery in accordance to organisation guidelines
Entry Requirements
Desired entry requirement: Physically fit; attentive; resilient; team player; able to read and write English (at a level equivalent to WPLN Level 2); possess knowledge, skills, experience essential to and gained from published PWM job roles. Assumed attitude: Safety-oriented; desire to perform well; receptive to exposure to unpleasant sights and smells, dangerous and/or toxic substances; handling of dangerous materials; ready to assume leadership, coaching, mentoring and/or supervisory job functions.
