MUE903 Popular Culture and ICT in Music Education (Classroom & synchronous e-learning)
About This Course
This proposed course aims to address a key gap that exists in participants' understanding of the concepts, ideas and issues in popular culture and ICT, and the roles they play in the music classroom, through a practical and theoretical framework. The course provides participants with the important foundation in musical skills and knowledge in popular musics, including the art of songwriting. Participants will also be able to demonstrate competency in music editing and sound design for moving images, and apply ICT skills in the application of popular musics for future productions. In addition, participants will learn to apply theoretical and pedagogical understanding of popular musics and ICT in music teaching and curriculum planning.the understanding of the implications for teaching and learning of these various international and interdisciplinary musical practices and traditions. Job Role(s): Music educator, Learning Facilitator; Curriculum Leader. Key Task(s): Prepare lesson plans in line with client stakeholder requirements and learner needs; Facilitate learning across multiple delivery modes in line with lesson plans; Deliver lesson content and coursework to learners in line with lesson plans; Facilitate group discussions for learners; Provide feedback and ongoing support to learners; Create curriculum design specifications based on analyses of curriculum objectives to guide development of courseware materials; Define desired user experience journeys for learners based on analyses of learning experience objectives; Evaluate appropriate learning delivery modes to facilitate achievement of learning experience objectives; Oversee the development of courseware materials to ensure alignment with curriculum objectives;

• Development of popular musics from its Anglo-American Roots; development of vernacular pop musics in Asia such as J pop, K pop, Bhagra, Mat-Rok and Canto-Mando pop.
• Exploring musical genres: Rhythm & Blues, Funk, Soul, Blues, Rock & Roll, Rock, Fusion Rock, Heavy Metal and standard Top 40’s pop and media music charts.
• “Learning to Perform” in a “real” music setting; practical sessions on the basic techniques of various pop instruments.
• Popular music pedagogical practices and their applications in the music classroom.
• Theoretical survey of ICT applications and platforms and their practical applications in music teaching and learning.
Entry Requirements
Practitioners with at least 1 year of music teaching experience
