Regulatory and Treasury Set-up In APAC

As treasurers have to manage the cashflow, Foreign Exchange (FX), Investor Relations (IR) and funding risks, it is thus the treasurer's responsibility to ensure that the operations of the organisation is protected and funded without hiccups and gaps, in all the markets that the organisation operates in.

The Asia Pacific region is home to many interesting markets whereby the currencies usage is restricted, market liquidity is limited, and cross border fund transfers are not straightforward. The complexity is due to the many regulations each country adopts which is often inundated with frequent updates to the regulations and new regulations being introduced at short notice.

How best can a treasurer and the treasury team equip themselves with all the necessary regulatory knowledge and keep updated with the changes to ensure that the organisation's activities could continue seamlessly and that all the financial risks are well managed?

As cash and liquidity managers, we need to know how to optimize our cash, structure our bank accounts and network, and proactively manage any restrictions on capital controls and movement of funds.

It is imperative that treasurers have a good understanding of the market characteristics and stakeholders’ behaviour as well as the
range of practices and tools available.
