ROS-Industrial: Introduction to ROS2 (ROS2 basic)
About This Course
This course is designed for technical professionals seeking practical skills in developing applications with Robot Operating System 2 (ROS 2). Focusing heavily on hands-on practice, the course offers a thorough exploration of key ROS 2 concepts and development workflows, enabling learners to create and troubleshoot robotic applications in an open-source, vendor-neutral environment.
The 32-hour duration provides ample time for in-depth coding exercises, application of best practices, and iterative testing—essential for understanding modularity, messaging, and integration within ROS 2 systems. Learners will also participate in project-based learning and guided lab sessions that reinforce both foundational and advanced topics.
Led by experienced instructors and utilising ROS 2-compatible platforms, the course is ideal for those transitioning from ROS 1 to ROS 2, as well as professionals aiming to gain practical experience with open-source robotic software tools. This intermediate-level course aligns with SIMTech’s applied learning approach and enhances skills relevant to real-world robotics and automation environments.xts.
What You'll Learn
1. Robotic and Automation Technology Application
2. Applications Development
3. Technology and Systems Application
4. Programming and Coding
This course employs SIMTech’s Learn-Practise-Implement™ (LPI™) pedagogy, where core principles are reinforced through practical application and project-based exercises.
- Learners will develop foundational programming and coding skills by designing and writing ROS 2 (Robot Operating System 2) nodes, packages, and workspaces. They will create modular and reusable code structures using Python or C++.
- Learners will apply applications development techniques to build and deploy ROS 2 topics, implement publisher-subscriber communication patterns, and construct services and actions. They will test and debug software within a simulated ROS 2 environment using best practices for scalability and reliability.
- Learners will gain experience in technology and systems application by configuring ROS 2 launch files, parameters, and system behaviours, enabling integration of ROS middleware into broader automation workflows.
- Learners will explore robotic and automation technology application by modelling real-world robotics behaviours in simulated environments and building control logic applicable to robotic platforms and automation systems.
- Learners will reinforce theoretical concepts through structured hands-on labs that include workspace setup, node communication, service-oriented architecture, and dynamic system configurations.
