About This Course
This course has two parts. First, it discusses the concept of data models. It is important to understand the data model as it underpins the planning of geospatial data in a GIS. The second part of the course describes the GIS applications for the different fields to demonstrate the many ways that GIS can be exploited.
What You'll Learn
It identifies the broad category of maps as well as the essential components of a map in both digital and hardcopy format. Then, it moves on to explain some basic geospatial analysis functionalities and illustrates how they help to solve real world problems using geographic information systems (GIS). Some examples are illustrated to enhance the understanding of how a GIS application can work. With this overview, it is easier to relate to common GIS applications and explore the possibilities that GIS can be applied to other real world problems.
