About This Course

On completion of this module, students should be able to:
1) Articulate differences in language, literacy, communication, motor, and social and emotional development in young children from birth to 6-years-old;
2) Apply the principles of differentiated instructions and apply it to preschool as well as early intervention settings;
3) Acquire basic skills of adapting curriculum through differentiations, varying prompt levels and behavior management, to enhance the learning success of young learners ; and,
4) Critically evaluate factors which promote or affect quality instructions and support.

What You'll Learn

This module builds on the students' knowledge of language, literacy, social and emotional, and motor development of children to further explore a variety of strategies for enhancing and supporting the development of these domains. A focus on differentiated instructions will be covered in tandem with classroom and behaviour management.

Entry Requirements

To be eligible for SDESN (PDC 1 only), candidates need to have met the following criteria:
a) Diploma in Early Childhood Care and Education-Teaching (DECCE-T) or acceptable equivalent; or
b) Diploma in Special Needs (DISE); or
c) Certificate in Special Needs (CISE) and 2 ‘A’ levels; or
d) Diploma or Degree in a related field (Psychology, Social Work, Human Services) from a recognised Tertiary Institution; and
e) Have worked in an early childhood setting
