Linear models, which were thoroughly explored in the previous module, are known to have a variety of drawbacks and issues which can lead to spurious results and faulty analyses if not addressed
What You'll Learn
At the end of the 2-day module, participant swill be able to:
• Use data visualisation and error analyses to identify issues with linear models for a given modelling situation
• Understand the need for alternative modelling techniques like shrinkage estimation and Decision Trees to address the deficiencies of linear modelling
• Apply alternative modelling methods to iterate upon and improve the inference and prediction performance of a previous linear modelling step
• Use linear models, shrinkage estimators and Decision Trees as a numerical alternative to performing Exploratory Data Analysis (as opposed to using plain data visualisations)
