Systems and Server Administration (Part of SCTP)
About This Course
This course is designed to equip you with a deep understanding & practical skills essential for managing modern server environments.
1. Introduction to Server Installation: It begins with foundational knowledge on server installation requirements & options, downloading the Windows Server ISO & initial setup processes.
2. Server Hardware & Virtualisation: Learn how to select & install appropriate server hardware, understand the server & server/client concepts, & gain hands-on experience in deploying Windows Server using Hyper-V, the installation of additional Windows Servers in a virtual machine environment.
3. Active Directory Domain Service Management: It delves into the complexities of Active Directory (AD), its structure, management, & operational intricacies. Learn to create & manage domains, trees, forests, organisational units, users & groups. Practical skills on setting up a Read-Only Domain Controller & managing an HR organizational unit using ADUC.
4. DNS & DHCP Configuration: Essential skills in setting up & integrating DNS, configuring DNS zones, records, & conditional forwarding will be covered. Learn to install & manage DHCP, scopes, reservations, & failover mechanisms.
5. Storage Management: Manage storage effectively within Windows Server. This includes creating disks & volumes, setting up storage spaces & replicas, calibrating performance & managing file permissions.
6. Remote Access & Network Policy: The installation & configuration of Remote Access Services (RAS) with VPN support & the Network Policy Server (NPS) role to enhance network security & management.
7. Virtual Machine Management: Manage virtual environments, memory management in VMs, supporting Integration Services, using VM Resource Groups, configuring Hyper-V replicas & network adapter management with NIC teaming.
8. High availability & Disaster Recovery: Learn to plan for business continuity, understand high availability strategies & implement disaster recovery best practices.
What You'll Learn
● Explain the distinction between server & server/client concepts, including hardware selection, roles of server components, & comprehend the essentials of Active Directory, Domain Name System, Demilitarized Zone, Cloud Computing & Virtualisation as integral parts of network infrastructure.
● Demonstrate proficiency in choosing & installing server hardware, including deploying Windows Server through Hyper-V, & successfully execute a secondary installation of Windows Server in a virtual machine environment.
● Demonstrate proficiency in setting up Active Directory (AD) & effectively managing organisation units (OUs), users, & groups in it, including setting up a Read-Only Domain Controller (RODC) computer object, creating an HR organizational unit using Active Directory Users & Computers (ADUC), & establishing two global HR groups within this OU.
● Develop the ability to set up & integrate Domain Name System (DNS), configure DNS zones, records, & conditional forwarding, install Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), & implement DHCP scopes, reservations, & failover mechanisms.
● Achieve proficiency in managing storage on Windows Server by creating disks & volumes, setting up storage spaces & replicas, calibrating performance for optimal operation, & configuring file permissions.
● Install & configure Remote Access Services (RAS) with VPN support & the Network Policy Server (NPS) role to enhance network management & security.
● Demonstrate proficiency in virtual machine management by efficiently managing memory in VMs, supporting Integration Services, utilizing VM Resource Groups, configuring Hyper-V replicas, & handling network adapters including setting up NIC teaming.
● Acquire the ability to effectively plan for business continuity, understanding different types of High Availability (HA) strategies, and implementing Disaster Recovery (DR) best practices.
