Liquid Chromatography - Part of Post Diploma Certificate in Advanced Analytical Methods (SDAS)
About This Course
Module Objectives
MO1 Describe the general principles of some techniques used in analytical, chemistry/biochemistry laboratories (UV-visible spectrophotometry and chromatography –liquid, analytical, mass selective detectors), their uses, advantages, disadvantages and limitations.
MO2 Describe briefly the workings of the instrumentation involved.
MO3 Carry out simple chemical analysis using HPLC chromatographic systems.
MO4 Interpret chromatograms and derive qualitative and quantitative information from them.
MO5 Perform simple troubleshooting and critically analyse experimental data and protocols with regard to analytical parameters such as precision, accuracy, reproducibility, sensitivity, noise, limits of detection and limits of quantitation, calibration graphs, controls and standards
MO6 Understand and apply the fundamental principles used in chemical analysis, including significant figures, mole, units, unit conversion factors, preparation of solutions, serial dilutions, dilution factor, random errors and systematic errors are introduced.
MO7 Understand and perform careful preparation of calibration standards and sample preparation.
MO8 Understand the fundamentals of analytical method validation, which includes the criteria for acceptance.
