About This Course
Course Objective
The objective of the course is to equip learners with the skills and knowledge to understand the various issues that accompany ageing which includes Geriatric syndrome, higher medication and fall risk, mobility and nutrition issues; and the relevant support and skills training techniques for transfer and position, infection prevention and control, health monitoring, escort services and suitable exercises to enable them to age well in the community.
This course is administered by Hua Mei Training Academy, an initiative of Tsao Foundation.
What You'll Learn
There are four (4) learning units (LUs) in this course.
LU1: Explain what is Geriatric Syndrome, reason for having higher medication risk and increased demand for patient escorts for the older person.
LU2: Examine the different types of mobility aids and their uses, common risk factors for falls and effective techniques for transfer and positioning for older person.
LU3: Understand the challenges of Infection prevention and control and how older person can monitor their health and age gracefully.
LU4: Understand the importance of exercise and nutritional needs required to protect the older person against life-threatening diseases.
Entry Requirements
Those who are 21 years old and above with at least 3 years of working experience in any industry. The required skills and knowledge for this course are as follows:
● Education:
● be able to listen and speak English at a proficiency level equivalent to the Employability Skills System (ESS) Literacy Level 4
● be able to read and write English at a proficiency level equivalent to the Employability Skills System (ESS) Literacy Level 4
● be able to manipulate numbers at a proficiency level equivalent to Employability Skills System (ESS) Numeracy Level 4
● have basic languages / dialects relevant to the target client group.
● Have prior working experience with older adults will be an added advantage
● Be motivated to learn and have positive attitude towards work and commitments.
● Have interest in community and social work.
