About This Course
This course introduces learners to the nature and cause of learning disabilities, and their assessment and intervention. It provides learners with an understanding of the types of learning disabilities and its associated challenges to academic learning and social emotional wellbeing. Learners will gain knowledge of the practical approaches to address the learning needs of students with learning disabilities. They will be equipped with relevant content knowledge and selected intervention skills to work with students with learning challenges. This course is targeted at practitioners in special and inclusive education and staff supporting persons with disabilities in the community and employment settings.

At the end of this course, learners will be able to:
1. Define learning disabilities and discuss the many signs and characteristics that often accompany these learning difficulties.
2. Identify and explain the most common types of learning disabilities and summarise the most commonly identified and treated learning disabilities.
3. Discuss academic placement challenges faced by schools and teachers.
4. Apply basic practical approaches for teaching students with learning disabilities.
