About This Course
At the end of the course participants should be able to:
1. Demonstrate awareness and understanding of the theoretical and policy underpinnings of capital markets and investment regulation;
2. Be familiar with the international standards and leading jurisdictions' sources of regulatory instruments;
3. Develop analytical competence in discussing the implications of regulatory standards in relation to interpretation, application and enforcement;
4. Develop an awareness of the application of course learning to the demands of the compliance and legal advisory professions; and
5. Engage in critical discussion and reflection on the achievements, shortfalls and drawbacks of regulatory standards, their scope, interpretation, application and enforcement.
What You'll Learn
This course aims to introduce to participants topical and current issues of interest in the regulation of international financial markets, with a focus on global capital and investment markets. The regulation of investment firms and funds reached a new high with mainly European leadership in regulatory standards and many of these are influential globally. We aim to cover theoretical foundations in regulation, so that participants can grasp the law and economic theories and public policy underpinnings of financial regulation, and specific topics that relate to securities and investment regulation. The approach to specific topics would be grounded in theoretical and policy understanding, in order to appreciate the high key highlights of regulatory duties, compliance implications and enforcement.
