Job Redesign Fundamentals (AI-Enabled)
About This Course
Organisations in Singapore are redesigning jobs in response to business transformation, technological advancement, artificial intelligence, work-force demographic changes, flexible work practices and evolving employee expectations. These developments affect not only complete job roles, but also the individual tasks, responsibilities, skills and learning pathways within each role.
Effective job redesign requires organisations to consider the relationship between business strategy and structure, work processes and tasks, technology, and people capabilities. It should therefore extend beyond rewriting job descriptions. Organisations need a systematic approach to identify the need for redesign, analyse current tasks, determine appropriate changes, plan and communicate implementation, support affected employees through learning and development, and monitor whether the redesigned role achieves the intended outcomes.
The Tripartite Guidelines on Flexible Work Arrangement Requests, which took effect on 1 December 2024, have also increased the need for managers and HR practitioners to examine how work is organised and how responsibilities, performance expectations and employee support arrangements are communicated. Flexible work is one contextual driver of job redesign, rather than the sole purpose of the course.
The increasing use of AI and generative AI creates an additional requirement for task-level analysis. Organisations must be able to determine which tasks may be automated, which should be augmented by technology and which should remain primarily human-led. These decisions must consider business value, work quality, risk, employee capability and the need for human judgement and accountability.
