About This Course
This module is designed to provide students with a refresher on the pharmacological principles and therapeutic interventions related to the treatment of ocular diseases. The course will cover the basic pharmacology of drugs used in ophthalmology, including mechanisms of action, pharmacokinetics, adverse effects and therapeutic application. Students will gain insight into the different classes of ocular medications and their appropriate use in the management of various ocular conditions.
Module Outline:
1. Brief overview of basic pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of ocular drugs and route of administration and drug deliver to the eye
2. Describe the mechasnism of action, clinical application, side-effects, indication and contraindication of the following classes of ocular drugs:

Even though clinical optometrists do not use therapeutic ocular drugs, by understanding the actions, safe uses, side-effects, indication and contraindication of the following therapeutic drugs will help them to be more proficient in managing stable cases of diseased patients using the following classes of eye drops:
• Atropine for myopia control
• Anti-glaucoma
• Anti-infective agents
• Anti-inflammatory and Anti-allergy agents
• Ocular medication for dry eye
