About This Course
1. Design and implement simple algorithms based on arrays, structs, branches, and loops, to model and solve problems.
2. Be competent with commonly used tools and good practices of programming.
3. Argue about properties and correctness of computer programs.
4. Explain how common searching and sorting algorithms work.
5. Appreciate the importance of information hiding and abstractions.
6. Construct a larger piece of computer program from smaller components (i.e., libraries/courses).
7. Understand the essence of the object-oriented programming paradigm and its manifestation in a modern objected oriented programming language.
What You'll Learn
This course introduces the fundamental concepts of problem-solving by programming. Topics covered include problem-solving by computing, writing pseudo-codes, and basic problem formulation. Students will develop programs, test and debug their programs, learn fundamental programming constructs (variables, types, expressions, assignments, functions, control structures, etc.), fundamental data structures: arrays, strings and structures, simple file processing, and basic recursion. Students will be introduced to the object-oriented programming paradigm as a powerful way of composing reusable components to form larger, more complex, programs.
Topics covered may include:
- Review of python programming.
- Review of problem-solving by computing.
- Object-oriented program design.
- Program development, coding, testing, and debugging.
- Object-oriented programming techniques.
- Arrays, strings, searching, and simple sorting.
- File processing.
- Static structures, array of structures, applications.
- Abstract data types (set, queue, stack).
- Recursion.
