About This Course
The course aims to equip learners with international construction management principles with a view to them applying the lessons learned to improve outcomes of projects outside Singapore. The objectives are to: (a) Understand the different modes to enter into an international construction market, (b) Learn different business strategies to be adopted in managing projects overseas, and (c) Appreciate ways to improve competitiveness in international projects.
What You'll Learn
Architectural, engineering and construction (AEC) professionals working abroad need to manage large global teams made up of members from different nations. Large cultural differences could act as a barrier to effective communication. Local construction practices function in ways AEC professionals have never encountered. Country risks and political risks may cause the project to be cancelled, postponed, renegotiated or redesigned. Success abroad requires tools to manage these challenges and risks. This course will help participants understand these differences and work effectively with people from different cultures. The course will familiarize participants with the unique challenges and risks of managing the planning and execution of construction projects in an international environment. It will provide a practical perspective of financial and economic risks, commercial and managerial risks, legal risks, cross cultural risks, country and political risk in the context of executing international construction projects. It will charge participants with management skills to handle the challenges and risks of international projects. Participants will gain a better understanding of how to master cross-cultural relationships and devise and implement effective strategies for managing complex, cross-border and multicultural projects.
Entry Requirements
