What You'll Learn

Cardiometabolic diseases can be defined as a group of interrelated health conditions that contribute to cardiometabolic decline, primarily dyslipidemia, hypertension, obesity, prediabetes/diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and kidney dysfunction. In Singapore, heart diseases, diabetes and cerebrovascular diseases like stroke contributed to almost 60000 hospitalisations in 2018. Moreover, hyperlipidaemia, hypertensive disease, and diabetes mellitus are the top three leading conditions of polyclinic attendances, making up 36.1% of all polyclinic diagnoses in 2019. According to the Burden of Disease in Singapore Report 2017, the burden of disability and early death from cardiometabolic diseases in Singapore are set to rise even further due to the demographic shift towards an ageing population.

To reduce this rising burden of disability, healthcare providers can learn from a cardiometabolic diseases management workshop, since it stresses on developing an overall care plan. However to date, there is no training programme that collectively emphasises on managing cardiometabolic diseases as a whole. This is significant because these diseases rarely exist in isolation, as having a cardiometabolic disease is a risk factor for developing other cardiometabolic diseases due to the common pathologic pathways they share. As such, this all-in-one workshop seeks to provide new budding practitioners a broad understanding of cardiometabolic diseases collectively and provide practical tips for management.
