At the end of the course, all participants will
- understand and appreciate the principles and approach of supportive and palliative care and its importance in Singapore
- understand the principles of pain and symptom management in end of life care
- understand the principles of effective communication in supportive and palliative care
- understand palliative care in cancer and non-cancer conditions
- understand the practical aspects of palliative care nursing
- understand emergency conditions in palliative care
- understand ethical issues surrounding palliative care
- understand the principles of terminal care
- understand the principles of palliative care in frailty

What You'll Learn

The aim of the course is to increase doctors' professional confidence and competence in the area of palliative care by equipping them with the necessary knowledge and skills to work with patients and families facing life-threatening illnesses. Some of the topics covered within this course include an introduction to palliative care, pain and symptom management, communication with patients and families, ethical dilemmas, dealing with psychological problems and use of existing hospice services in Singapore.

Entry Requirements

Participant must be a qualified medical practitioner. Advanced Practice Nurses with relevant specialty will be considered.
