About This Course

The objective of the masterclass is to expose the participants to the practices outside of Singapore. The trainer will conduct the training based on their experience and overseas practices. Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

• Gain the overview understanding of Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage (CCUS)
• Apply CCUS technology across the energy system
• Understand the range of technological solutions and business drivers, including policy
• Learn new opportunities and integrated value creation possibilities through emerging carbon utilisation options

What You'll Learn

• Introduction
o CO2 emissions classification
o CO2 emissions by sector
o Netzero target setting
o Importance of CCS, CCUS
• Brief History of CCS/CCUS
o How CCS emerged, when, trailblazers?
o Early pilot projects
o Ramp up
o Impact of fluctuating CO2 pricing
o Successful projects during the crisis
• Carbon Capture (by emission sources)
o Fundamental approaches: pre- and post-combustion, oxyfuel, industrial processes
o Power plants (coal / NG combined cycle)
o Industrial sectors (cement, iron and steel, refineries – in particular blue hydrogen)

o Sea
o Pipeline
o Emerging Technologies and Future Trend in CO2 Transportation
• Carbon Storage
o CO2 / CCUS hazards. Safe CO2 operations
o Compression
o Subsurface sequestration (EOR, depleted reservoirs, saline aquifers, monitoring systems, risks)
o Storage capacity
o Other forms of sequestration
• Carbon Utilisation
o Current carbon dioxide utilisation
o Captured carbon as a feedstock into ‘low carbon’ petrochemicals such as methanol and synthetic fuels
o Carbon utilisation and the ‘circular economy’
• CCUS Technologies
o Overview of current technologies applied (how to remove the CO2 from process streams, solvents, amines)
o Evaluation of technologies: techno-commercial
o Modelling of subsurface aspects of CO2
o Cost structure, learning curves: challenges and opportunities
