About This Course
This course equips the participant with the necessary skills and knowledge in the following areas:
- Principles of green chemistry and engineering
- Sustainable Product Development
- Sustainable energy development - energy across its value chain, from production, to distribution and consumption
- Environmental impact
- Energy reduction (heat integration and other methods), decarbonization in corporate sustainability
- Electrification
- Life Cycle Costing (LCC) for renewable energy
What You'll Learn
With rising concerns over climate change and resource depletion in this century, the role of engineers in developing processes that are cleaner and greener is evident. There is growing attention and demand for clean energy, globally and locally. Green engineering focuses on use of engineering processes and methods that will have minimal impact on the environment, minimize potential health impacts and improve a business sustainability. While, sustainable energy, in general, refers to affordable, reliable and clean energy, whilst improving energy efficiency and maintaining safe energy management.
In this course, student will learn principles of green chemistry and engineering, various methods for sustainable product development, a number of green/cleaner energy options, energy reduction in process industries, about improving energy efficiency, decarnonization, decentralization, digitalization and deregulation (4D) global drivers associated with renewal energy. Besides this, we will discuss various methods to quantify environmental impact of engineering processes. This includes use of life cycle analysis (LCA) and other methods. Besides this, we will cover challenges and opportunities in achieving affordable, reliable and clean energy, whilst improving energy efficiency and maintaining safe energy management.
