Tripartite Maritime Training Award (Deck) Pre-Sea Preparation Training Course
About This Course
The Tripartite Maritime Training Award (TMTA) is a career development programme that prepares Singaporeans and Permanent Residents to join the maritime industry and pursue their aspirations as Nautical Officers onboard ocean-going ships.
The Pre-Sea Preparation Training Course, aka Phase 1, prepares students for their shipboard training, which will mark the beginning of their professional careers. They will attend full-time classroom-based training and practical lessons for four months, covering a series of modules listed below. This course is in accordance with the provisions of regulation II/1.2 of the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers, 1978 (STCW 1978).
Lessons are conducted by specialists whom themselves were former seafaring professionals and industry practitioners. Knowledge is disseminated via multimodal inputs, where students learn through slide presentations, videos, notes, textbooks and tutorials. Hands-on sessions add pedagogical holism like ropework in the Seamanship module. The course also leverages on learning technology like the Full Mission Navigation Simulator, where students learn the use of modern Electronic Navigation Aids. Online learning platforms are also used for tutorial and assessment.
