Assessment and Development of 21st Century Competencies (Classroom and Asynchronous E-Learning)
About This Course
This course aims to equip aspiring and existing educators with a better understanding of the theories, principles, and applications of the assessment approaches in helping their students acquire the 21st century competencies. Learners will be exposed to the knowledge, skills and attitudes that make up the 21st century competencies, the traditional and alternative principles and theories of assessment, theories, the theories and principles of authentic task design and rubric development as well as the principles and approaches of providing student feedback. Through these, learners will be able to develop a deeper understanding of how assessment approaches could be more effectively aligned with the teaching and learning process to achieve intended student outcomes.
What You'll Learn
• apply the understanding of the 21st century competencies and assessment theories in teaching and learning;
• compare and contrast traditional assessment approaches and alternative assessment approaches;
• identify the different types of assessment (i.e. diagnostic, formative and summative/evaluative) and explain their purposes;
• describe the different modes of assessment (i.e. pen-and paper tests, performance-based assessments, student self-assessment);
• design authentic learning tasks and scoring rubrics.
• apply the principles of assessment (i.e. validity, reliability, fairness and flexibility) in the design of assessment tasks and rubrics;
• apply the rules of evidence (i.e. valid, sufficient, current, authentic) in collection of assessment data or evidences;
• conduct and review of the assessment design and process; and including giving student feedback.
