About This Course
This online training course focuses on creating awareness on the safe handling and emergency response procedures for operations on or near Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG)-fuelled ships.
What You'll Learn
This course is designed to equip harbour pilots or maritime personnel with the essential knowledge and skills for safely handling Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) as a fuel and responding to emergencies on LNG-fuelled ships. Participants will also gain a thorough understanding of LNG’s properties, associated hazards and safety measures, the LNG fuel system, corporate governance and management system, LNG bunkering operations, and the environmental impacts of LNG spills.
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
1. Interpret the Safety Data Sheet specific to liquefied natural gas as fuel, and its potential hazards, safe handling procedures, and necessary precautions.
2. Explain the chemical and physical properties of liquefied natural gas as a fuel source.
3. Evaluate the risks and hazards associated with liquefied natural gas fuel leakage, static discharge, compatibility, fire, health effects and environmental impacts.
4. Explain the fuel system layout related to liquefied natural gas as fuel.
5. Identify appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and analyse the Gas detection devices on the specific hazards for protection of personnel.
6. Explain emergency related to liquefied natural gas spills and fires and response procedures.
