About This Course

Conflict is an inevitable part of any workplace, and it can arise from differing perspectives, competing priorities, or miscommunications. How conflict is managed, however, can significantly impact the effectiveness of a team, the well-being of its members, and the overall success of the organisation. In educational settings, where teamwork, communication, and collaboration are essential to providing the best care for students, managing conflict effectively is even more critical. Poorly handled conflict can disrupt harmony, lower morale, and hinder productivity, while well-managed conflict can lead to positive growth, innovation, and stronger relationships.

This module provides participants with a comprehensive set of skills and strategies for addressing and resolving conflicts constructively. Learners will explore various sources of conflict in educational environments, including interpersonal disputes, misunderstandings, and role ambiguities, and develop the ability to identify conflict early before it escalates. The module will teach learners how to remain calm and objective during conflict situations, ensuring that emotions do not cloud their judgment or decision-making.

Participants will learn practical, step-by-step techniques for managing disagreements, including active listening, mediation, and negotiation. Through role-playing exercises and case studies, they will gain experience in de-escalating tense situations and finding mutually beneficial solutions that respect the interests of all parties involved. Learners will also be introduced to frameworks such as the Interest-Based Relational Approach and Collaborative Problem-Solving, which provide structured ways to engage in conflict resolution that leads to long-term positive outcomes.

This course is conducted in Mandarin and is part of the (SCTP) Educational Leadership (Mandarin) programme.
