FEP 6400 Fire Regulations and Codes
About This Course
As cities expand and architectural designs become increasingly sophisticated, the importance of fire codes in safeguarding public safety continues to grow. In the era of Industry 4.0, digitalisation and connectivity are transforming how safety standards are applied, with sensors, networks, and cyber-physical systems enabling real-time monitoring and compliance. This course equips participants with the knowledge to integrate fire code requirements into technology-enabled, digitally connected building designs.
Developed to address the evolving demands of the building industry, the course is designed for architects, engineers, consultants, and other professionals responsible for submitting plans to fire safety authorities. By linking fire safety with Industry 4.0 advancements—such as automation, robotics, and additive manufacturing—it ensures that safety considerations are embedded into modern, innovative construction processes.
Beyond compliance, the course emphasises the role of data analytics and AI in optimising safety strategies, enabling predictive approaches to risk management and decision-making. Participants will also gain insight into sustainable design practices, where resource efficiency and reduced waste align with fire safety requirements.
Finally, the course supports reskilling and upskilling by preparing professionals to apply Industry 4.0 practices in building safety design. By completing it, you will strengthen your expertise in fire codes, stay ahead of regulatory expectations, and contribute to a safer, smarter, and more sustainable built environment.
What You'll Learn
Means of Escape provisions specify exit requirements to ensure safe evacuation, including capacity, travel distance, number and design of exit staircases, and conditions for different staircase types. Structural Fire Precautions address compartmentation to contain fire spread, fire resistance ratings for buildings, approved materials, and design provisions to enhance structural resilience.
Site Planning and External Firefighting Provisions outline requirements for fire engine access roads and accessways, fire access openings, and provision of private fire hydrants to facilitate external firefighting operations. Firefighting Systems set standards for rising mains, hose reels, manual and automatic alarm systems, sprinkler systems, and fire lifts to ensure active fire protection within buildings.
Emergency Lighting and Voice Communication Systems ensure safe evacuation through regulated exit signs, emergency lighting, voice communication systems, and fire command centres. Mechanical Ventilation and Smoke Control Systems define requirements for exit ventilation, smoke-free lobbies, fire lift lobbies, and special purpose rooms, as well as smoke control methods tailored to building types.
The Product Listing Scheme regulates fire safety products to ensure reliability and compliance. It identifies approved products and defines different listing schemes, thereby ensuring consistency in fire protection standards across buildings.
Together, these frameworks establish a comprehensive system of passive and active fire safety measures, safeguarding occupants and enabling effective firefighting response.
Entry Requirements
There are no minimum requirements. However, possession of a relevant educational or technical background is preferred or may provide an advantage. The participant must make the informed decision on whether he/she can successfully complete the module.
