Awareness and Familiarisation of Handling Methanol as Fuel (Asynchronous e-learning)
About This Course
This course is designed for harbour pilots, seafarers or maritime personnel with the essential knowledge in the operation onboard or alongside methanol fuelled ships. Participants will also gain a thorough understanding of methanol's properties, associated hazards and safety measures, the methanol storage and maintenance system, emergency and contingency response protocols, and the environmental impacts of spills.
The online asynchronous learning consists of self-paced, interactive modules featuring multimedia presentations, animations, videos, quizzes, podcasts, and AI-generated avatar voiceovers. Additionally, the immersive Virtual Reality (VR) desktop version on methanol bunkering will further enhance the learning experience.
What You'll Learn
By the end of the course, participants will:
1. Interpret key sections of the safety data sheet of methanol.
2. Evaluate the risks and hazards associated with handling of methanol fuel.
3. Describe the methanol fuel storage and maintenance system, along with carbon tracking using the Energy Efficiency Operational Indicator (EEOI).
4. Explain the methanol bunkering process and the safety procedures associated with managing the risks and hazards involved.
5. Explain the emergency and contingency plans, along with the response and safety procedures, associated with methanol bunkering.
6. Describe the environmental impacts of gas plumes, their dynamics, and the assessments required to understand the associated risks.
