What You'll Learn
The standard first aid course is designed to equip you with the essential skills and knowledge necessary to respond effectively to a wide range of medical emergencies.
This comprehensive training is crucial for anyone looking to be prepared in times of crisis, whether in the workplace, at home, or in public spaces.
Fundamentals of First Aid: The course begins with the basics of first aid, where you'll learn its primary objectives: to preserve life, promote recovery, and prevent further injury. Understanding the role and limitations of a first aider is critical, as is learning about universal precautions to prevent disease transmission. A significant focus is placed on the contents and maintenance of a first aid kit, along with the primary and secondary surveys (DRSABC), essential steps in assessing a casualty's condition.
Managing Unconscious Casualties: You'll gain skills in handling unconscious individuals, particularly those not in cardiac arrest. This includes managing head and spinal injuries and recognizing and responding to conditions like heat-related illnesses, seizures, fainting, low blood sugar, and strokes. Practical training in positioning an unconscious person into the recovery position is also provided, ensuring their airway remains clear.
Respiratory Emergencies: The course covers interventions for various respiratory problems, including choking, asthma, hyperventilation, and reactions to fumes or allergens. These skills are vital in responding promptly to respiratory emergencies, potentially saving lives.
Shock, Bleeding, and Wound Management: You'll learn about the critical aspects of shock and bleeding control, a fundamental part of first aid. The course teaches you to recognize different types of wounds and how to treat them, from simple cuts to more severe injuries like amputations and animal bites. Bandaging techniques and the use of tourniquets are also covered.
Musculoskeletal Injuries: Handling injuries to bones, muscles, and joints
