Textile Processes and Principles (Classroom and Asynchronous e-learning)
About This Course
This course equips participants with occupational knowledge and practical skills in textile analysis and identification, which are essential in the fashion and apparel industry. It provides an in-depth understanding of textile processes from fiber to finished fabric, including spinning, weaving, knitting, dyeing, printing, and finishing. Participants will gain insights into how these processes influence fabric properties, quality, and performance.
Through hands-on practice, demonstrations, and lectures, learners will develop the ability to identify fibers, yarns, fabrics, and finishing techniques accurately. They will also learn to recognize potential risks and limitations associated with fabric selection at various stages of design, production, and marketing. This knowledge empowers participants to troubleshoot effectively, make informed decisions, and adopt a proactive approach to solving textile-related challenges within the fashion industry.
What You'll Learn
– Recognize natural and synthetic fibers using their physical and performance properties.
2. Interpret yarn types and compute yarn size conversion using industry sizing systems
– Apply knowledge of yarn count, twist, and conversion systems to textile evaluation.
3. Identify fabrics based on construction and specifications
– Differentiate between woven, knitted, and non-woven fabrics through analysis of weave/knit structures and technical details.
4. Determine coloration and finishing methods of given fabrics
– Examine textile dyeing, printing, and finishing processes and identify techniques applied to samples.
5. Evaluate coloration and finishing methods to assess impact on lead time and material quality
– Analyse how different processes affect production timelines, fabric performance, and overall quality.
6. Conduct a risk analysis of selected textiles used in apparel and provide recommendations
– Identify potential issues in fabric selection and propose practical solutions to mitigate risks in design, production, and marketing.
