Diploma in Engineering (Advanced Manufacturing)
About This Course
The Diploma in Engineering (Advanced Manufacturing) aims to offer students a future-ready pathway by equipping them with the essential skills and knowledge for career advancement in the evolving Precision Engineering (PE) sector. In alignment with the Precision Engineering Industry Transformation Map (PE ITM), the course now incorporates emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), data analytics, and sustainability practices to meet the growing industry demands. Through a refreshed curriculum, learners will gain competencies in smart manufacturing, digitalization, and green engineering to support advanced manufacturing transformation.
The Diploma in Engineering (Advanced Manufacturing) focuses on emerging technologies such as smart manufacturing, automation, and digitalization that are applied in the areas of precision engineering and advanced production systems. It equips current manufacturing technicians with equivalent roles with the knowledge and skills required to undertake roles for Assistant Engineer / Associate Engineer in the Precision Engineering sector.
The programme covers a broad spectrum of knowledge and applications essential for advanced manufacturing. Student will develop skills in smart manufacturing systems, including automation, robotics, and industrial IoT and digital tools such as CAD/CAM technologies. The curriculum also introduces data analytics and AI for process optimisation, predictive maintenance, and quality control. In addition, sustainability practices are embedded to promote energy-efficient operations and environmentally responsible manufacturing. These competencies enable students to support transformation efforts across the Precision Engineering sector.
What You'll Learn
• Students will be able to apply Artificial Intelligence (AI), data analytics, and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) to enhance automation and promote sustainability in advanced manufacturing systems.
• Students will be able to implement productivity improvement techniques, analyse quality management systems such as ISO 9001, and demonstrate the ability to carry out basic carbon emissions reporting aligned with sustainability standards like ISO 14064.
• Students will be able to design mechanical components using CAD tools, apply Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T), and perform basic finite element analysis (FEA) to evaluate structural performance.
• Students will be able to evaluate and select appropriate manufacturing processes—including additive manufacturing—for different production needs, and design tooling systems such as jigs and fixtures for cost-effective manufacturing.
• Students will be able to operate CNC turning, milling, and multi-axis machining equipment, integrate CAD/CAM applications, and carry out precision part manufacturing and inspection in line with Industry 4.0 practices.
