Diploma in Engineering (Aerospace)
About This Course
The Diploma in Engineering (Aerospace) is designed for working professionals seeking to enhance their technical competencies and career prospects in the aerospace sector. The part-time format offers flexibility, enabling students to pursue academic advancement while managing work and personal commitments.
It offered in collaboration with the Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS). Through this partnership, graduates will be eligible for advanced standing in the Bachelor of Engineering in Aerospace Systems (BEHAS) programme at SUSS, providing a seamless progression route to a degree qualification.
The programme is strategically designed to cultivate a robust pipeline of skilled aerospace professionals. It equips students with a strong foundation in aerospace engineering principles, complemented by hands-on experience and the adaptability needed to excel in a fast-evolving, technology-driven industry.
The programme also serves as a critical upskilling platform for existing aerospace technicians, enabling them to take on expanded responsibilities and progress into roles such as Senior Technician within the aerospace ecosystem.
What You'll Learn
• Describe the principles of flight, including atmospheric properties, aerodynamic forces, aircraft performance (take-off, cruise, landing), stability and control, and basics of high-speed and rotary-wing flight.
• Identify and evaluate human factors in aviation maintenance and understand the regulatory framework of Singapore aviation legislation, with emphasis on maintenance and engineering compliance.
• Demonstrate advanced skills in aircraft maintenance in accordance with Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) standards. Key competencies include maintenance procedures, metal joining, disassembly and inspection techniques, assembly, and aircraft servicing and handling.
• Analyse key aircraft mechanical systems, including hydraulics, pneumatics, landing gear, flight controls, air conditioning, pressurisation, fire protection, anti-/de-icing, oxygen, fuel, and waste systems.
• Explain the fundamentals of aircraft design and construction, covering fuselage types, wings, empennage, flight controls, and landing gear.
• Create essential CAD skills using CATIA, focusing on solid, surface, and sheet metal modelling, and generate 2D engineering and assembly drawings for aerospace applications.
• Apply composite repair techniques, focusing on failure modes, material identification, and proper tool use for effective cosmetic and structural repairs.
• Analyse the properties and applications of engineering materials
• Evaluate the capabilities and limitations of computer aided machining processes involving both CNC turning and CNC Milling.
• Compare different Additive Manufacturing technologies and select appropriate processes for Polymer and Metal Additive Manufacturing.
