Feuerstein Instrumental Enrichment Basic Level 1
About This Course
The Feuerstein Instrumental Enrichment (FIE) Basic Level 1 course introduces cognitive trainers who coach or facilitate programmes for children to Feuerstein’s process-oriented approach to cognitive development. This will equip them with the theoretical foundations and practical skills to become effective mediators of the first five instruments: Organization of Dots (Basic), Orientation in Space (Basic), From Unit to Group, Identify the Emotions, and Compare and Discover the Absurd. These instruments provide children with tools to develop perceptual accuracy, spatial orientation, logical reasoning, emotional literacy, and classification skills.
The course blends theory and practice, covering Structural Cognitive Modifiability (SCM), Mediated Learning Experience (MLE), deficient and emergent cognitive functions, and the cognitive map. Participants will learn to apply the principles of mediation in classrooms, therapy, or one-on-one settings, with children across diverse contexts—including neurotypical learners, children with special needs, or learners from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Level 1 emphasises lesson planning, bridging to daily life, and adapting mediation to different learner profiles. Through experiential exercises, role-play, and guided reflection, participants will gain confidence in creating meaningful cognitive interactions that lay the foundations for independent, analytic, and socially aware learning.
FIE Basic Level 1 is suited for educators who aspire to take on job roles as Cognitive Enrichment Facilitators or Coaches.
Participants who complete all training activities and deliverables will be awarded the FIE Basic Mediator Level 1 (of 2) certificate that is valid for 4 years and can be renewed by completing the following Continuous Professional Development (CPD) requirements: Submit an implementation log reflecting 30 hrs of practice, and complete in three additional Feuerstein certification courses or at least 8 online or “live” CPD seminars
