Specialist Certificate in Energy Systems Efficiency (Classroom & Asynchronous e-Learning)
About This Course
This micro-credential equips participants to analyse energy consumption, optimise systems, and implement sustainable solutions across industries. Participants will tackle challenges such as reducing industrial energy waste, improving Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) efficiency, enhancing grid reliability, and designing net-zero energy buildings. With expertise in energy management, renewable integration, and regulatory compliance, participants will drive cost-effective, sustainable energy solutions while contributing to carbon reduction and energy resilience.
Participants will build numerical models for thermal and fluid analysis. Participants will also determine efficiency status of different engineering applications, such as air-conditioning cycle, refrigeration, and heat exchangers, appraising their designs for improved energy efficiency. Technologies and techniques behind the management of energy for energy auditing in order to target energy efficiency opportunities will also be covered. Participants will achieve predetermined learning outcomes outlined in the three distinct Competency Units. An interdisciplinary project spanning all three Competency Units will be undertaken by the participants. Participants will utilise numerical modelling and analysis methods in engineering contexts, to design and optimise these different systems. From the specific competencies of each Credit Units (CUs), participants will apply and complete a comprehensive cycle of building, designing, optimising, and evaluation of such systems.
What You'll Learn
Evaluate and interpret the performance of an air-conditioning process and its Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) components by using psychrometric charts and applying thermodynamic calculations.
Evaluate an industrial heat exchanger system and implement strategies to improve its energy efficiency.
Topic 2: Modelling and Simulation
Perform pre-processing, set-up and solving of a numerical model with a sound approach that is representative of the problem
Perform post-processing, conduct proper validation, analysis and discussion of results obtained, demonstrating competency in understanding the problem statement and the numerically acquired solution.
Topic 3: Sustainable Energy Management
Analyse the complexities of energy management considering political, regulatory and fiscal influences and apply diverse energy efficiency technologies to optimise consumption across various domains.
Conduct comprehensive energy audits to monitor and enhance energy efficiency by effectively managing metering systems and accurately correlating productivity with energy usage for strategic decision-making.
