Operate and Maintain Chainsaw
About This Course
Designed for individuals involved in chainsaw operations, this course equips learners with the essential knowledge and hands-on skills to operate chainsaws safely and effectively in compliance with Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) requirements. Learners will gain practical competence in selecting appropriate PPE, preparing a safe worksite, conducting pre- and post-operational checks, and applying correct operating techniques in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures. The course also covers equipment inspection, fault identification, safe maintenance practices, and environmentally responsible work methods to ensure chainsaws and related machinery are used, maintained, and stored safely.
What You'll Learn
• Learners will demonstrate competency in performing pre-operational checks, calibration, and inspections of chainsaws and related machinery. Through practical activities, they will ensure equipment is fit for use, operate chainsaws using correct techniques, and follow prescribed procedures and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to meet operational requirements safely and effectively.
• Learners will be able to apply environmentally responsible work methods during chainsaw operations to minimise negative environmental impacts. They will also perform post-operational inspections to identify faults, carry out routine maintenance safely in compliance with regulatory and manufacturer requirements, and conduct post-operational checks to ensure equipment is left in a safe condition for storage or transport.
Entry Requirements
This training is targeted at the Landscape Services sector. The target audience will primarily be the landscape technician in the landscape industry who is required to carry out defined work tasks with some independence and be able to react to changes in the work contexts by adjusting the application of skills.
The job of a landscape technician involves a combination of manual work and the use of specialised tools such as chainsaws. This training will enable the learners to recognise the hazard and risk, and apply the correct methods and techniques when operating and maintenance chainsaw operations. Learners should have at least a basic education level equivalent to Secondary 2 (O-Level) to ensure they possess the literacy and numeracy skills needed for safety instructions and technical content.
