Practical Movement & Sensory Strategies for Diverse Learners
About This Course
This evidence-informed training translates sensory-motor theory into practical action for educators and caregivers supporting neurodivergent learners.
The course emphasises implementation, equipping you with movement sequences, regulation routines, and applied strategies that can be used immediately with children, youth, and adults with diverse support needs.
Through a blend of theory and hands-on experiential learning, learners will gain the confidence to implement movement-based interventions effectively.
The result is a practical toolkit that enhances learner engagement, supports emotional regulation, and builds the foundation for learning readiness.
What You'll Learn
1. Understand Sensory–Motor Foundations
● Explain how movement, sensory processing, and motor development influence behaviour, attention, and learning readiness.
● Describe the functions of the vestibular, proprioceptive, tactile, visual, and auditory systems.
2. Analyse Sensory and Behavioural Patterns
● Identify sensory-seeking, sensory-avoidant, and dysregulation patterns using structured observation techniques.
● Interpret body signals, movement cues, and behavioural responses that reflect nervous system states.
3. Apply Movement-Based Intervention Strategies
● Use movement routines to support emotional regulation, sustained attention, and behavioural stability.
● Facilitate rhythmic activities, cross-lateral sequences, grounding exercises, and whole-body sensory experiences.
4. Integrate Movement into Learning and Daily Routines
● Embed movement into classroom transitions, learning tasks, and small-group activities.
● Design simple sensory-responsive routines that enhance readiness to learn.
5. Design Personalised Movement Plans
● Create movement-based intervention sequences tailored to different profiles.
● Adapt activities according to sensory thresholds, behavioural cues, and functional goals.
6. Facilitate Safe and Supportive
● Apply safety considerations when facilitating movement activities for people with diverse support needs.
● Set up safe environments, manage risk, and use appropriate prompting and supervision.
7. Build Capacity in Others
● Communicate and model movement-based strategies to caregivers, colleagues, or support staff.
● Empower learners to develop self-regulation and self-care habits using movement.
