Master of Science in Medical Pharmacology
About This Course
The MSc Medical Pharmacology program is designed to meet the rapidly expanding needs of the biotech and pharmaceutical sectors in Singapore (SG) and the Asia-Pacific region.
A white paper document published by SGInnovate, a government-based agency supporting the nations deep-tech development, has highlighted a key bottleneck in the talent development pipeline to support preclinical and clinical development of therapeutic products in SG-based biotech and pharmaceutical companies. This report specifically highlighted the lack of pharmacologists, toxicologists, biostatisticians, clinical development managers, specialist regulatory affair professionals as well as business development managers grounded in pharmacological sciences. Therefore, the MSc in Medical Pharmacology program aims to produce highly skilled professionals capable of addressing the challenges and complexities throughout the entire drug development lifecycle. This includes the discovery of new therapeutics, navigating through preclinical and clinical development stages, and overseeing post-clinical development activities. The program emphasizes strong industry partnerships and aims to equip graduates with a transformative and interdisciplinary education underscored by advanced domain knowledge, high-demand professional skillsets, and a valuable industry network.
In tandem with the growth of the therapeutic industry, an emerging lack of drug educators to support the training and education needs in the healthcare, industry, and academic sectors has been repeatedly raised during international pharmacology meetings over the past year. To meet this demand, a unique feature in this MSc Medical Pharmacology program is the preparation of an educator track to achieve a sustainable pipeline of pharmacological trainers.
Through the capstone component of this MSc program, we aim to foster innovations in research and education, positioning ourselves as a knowledge ally alongside other stakeholders to accelerate medicinal breakthroughs. This program aligns with the university's mission of fostering innovation, promoting interdisciplinary research, and enhancing global competitiveness.
What You'll Learn
Graduates from this program will be well-positioned for careers in translational and clinical pharmacology as well as toxicology, taking on roles such as laboratory or clinical pharmacologists, toxicologists, pharmacovigilance specialists, and clinical trial and clinical development managers. Additionally, students pursuing the education track will be trained to become pharma trainers and clinical educators, preparing the next generation of pharmacologists and healthcare professionals.
These roles can be found in contract research organizations (CROs), pharmaceutical and biotech companies, hospitals, and regulatory bodies, where the focus is on ensuring drug efficacy and safety through a molecular, cellular, and systems biology approach.
