Specialist Certificate in Electrical Systems (Classroom, Synchronous & Asynchronous)
About This Course
The Electrical Systems micro-credential equips participants with the foundational and applied competencies required to analyse, design, control, test, and verify low-voltage electrical power systems in power generation, transmission and distribution facilities, buildings and industrial environments. This micro-credential comprises three competency units that cover critical aspects of electrical systems. Participants develop proficiency in power distribution systems, electrical machines and drive control, and code-compliant electrical installation design and safety practices.
Aligned to the SkillsFuture Electrical & Electronic Engineering technical skills frameworks and the licensing ecosystem for the Professional Engineer (Electrical) and Energy Market Authority Electrical Engineer pathways, this micro-credential develops work-ready capabilities relevant to roles such as Power Systems Engineer, Electrical Design/Commissioning Engineer, Data Centre Electrical Engineer, and Electric Vehicle /Energy Storage Systems Infrastructure Engineer. It supports participants in building professional judgement and practice-based readiness in line with emerging needs in electrification, digital infrastructure, energy transition, and smart buildings.
What You'll Learn
1. Analyse and evaluate single-phase and three-phase Alternating Current (AC) power systems using phasor methods and power flow modelling tools, demonstrating the ability to assess complex power behaviour, system stability, and energy performance in electrical distribution systems.
2. Apply principles of electromagnetic energy conversion to analyse Alternating Current (AC) and Direct Current (DC) machine performance and integrate machines with power electronic drive systems, demonstrating the ability to control speed and torque for practical industrial applications.
3. Design and verify low-voltage electrical power distribution systems by applying protection, safety, and regulatory requirements, demonstrating the ability to develop safe, compliant installations and perform electrical testing to ensure operational integrity.
Entry Requirements
This Micro-Credential is accessible without any stringent prerequisites. However, participants are recommended to possess:
1. Foundational knowledge of basic electrical principles, including Ohm’s Law, Kirchhoff’s Laws, and the relationship among voltage, current, resistance, and power.
2. Understanding on the use of electrical units and circuit analysis techniques involving resistive, inductive, and capacitive elements.
3. Basic proficiency in algebra, complex numbers, and phasor representation.
