Energy & Sustainability (Synchronous e-learning)
About This Course
This course focuses on the reduction of energy and resource consumption in data centre operations and contrasts these influencing factors against the need of individual datacentres to meet their business risk requirements. It addresses the entire spectrum of the data centre from the core Information Technology (IT) systems through to their environmental conditions, air management and mechanical and electrical systems, on-site generation, metrics and benchmarking systems supporting them.
For a data center to gain planning approval, avoid NIMBYISM and meet the ESG goals of the attached organization, it must emit the least amount of carbon emissions that current technology allows.
Energy efficiency and Sustainability is therefore a core aspect of data center management. Whether students plan, build, or operate or supply digital infrastructure, this course gives them the tools to drive increased efficiency through their infrastructure decisions.
Spanning Information Technology (IT) systems and their environmental conditions, air management and mechanical and electrical systems, on-site generation, metrics and benchmarking, this course offers strategies which provide efficiency benefits for a wide variety of data center scenarios.
The students will learn about the key considerations for near and long-term target measures for data centre energy efficiency enablement, alongside operation and design strategies that help maximize program impacts and increase cost-effectiveness, ensuring that capital investments deliver results. It offers strategies which provide efficiency benefits for a wide variety of data centre scenarios in many different climates – and especially in tropical Singapore climate.
