About This Course

Discover the future of healthcare innovation in this blended course that bridges precision medicine, nutrition, and 3D printing. Participants will gain practical experience in formulation, understand regulatory pathways, and explore cutting-edge fabrication techniques shaping tomorrow’s nutraceutical and pharmaceutical products. Comparing conventional and additive manufacturing approaches, the course highlights how semi-solid extrusion (SSE) technology supports personalised medicine and fosters sustainability through efficient, low-waste, and eco-friendly production practices.

What You'll Learn

1. Explain the principles of personalised healthcare solutions.
2. Differentiate between conventional manufacturing and additive manufacturing techniques (e.g., Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM), Stereolithography (SLA), Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) and inkjet) in terms of process, material requirements, and suitability for dosage forms.
3. Understand material considerations (excipients, polymers, bio-inks) for dosage form design across both traditional and 3D-printed methods.
4. Apply regulatory and quality perspectives for both conventional and 3D printed dosage forms.
5. Design and simulate simple dosage forms (e.g., tablets, capsules, functional foods) using CAD software.
6. Operate a 3D printer to fabricate a model nutraceutical/pharmaceutical dosage form.
7. Evaluate the advantages, limitations, sustainability aspects, and future opportunities of personalised healthcare solutions in comparison to conventional solutions.
8. Describe the purpose and principles of quality testing for pharmaceuticals and nutraceuticals, and apply this knowledge through hands-on laboratory activities.
