AI and Software Engineering Fundamentals (Part of SCTP)
About This Course
This course provides the essential foundation for a career in AI Engineering. This intensive module moves beyond basic coding to instill professional software development practices. Learners will master version control with Git, adopt agile methodologies for collaborative projects, and set up a complete local development environment. A core focus is on data management, where learners will design relational databases and become proficient in SQL to manipulate and retrieve data effectively. Furthermore, the module introduces the fundamental principles of architecting software for seamless AI model integration.
Upon completion, learners will possess the core competencies and practical toolkit required to build, manage, and scale modern, data-driven applications.
What You'll Learn
Configure local and cloud-based environments with coding tools, databases, and libraries that support integration of LLMs, APIs, and vector databases.
Use Git for version control, Agile workflows for collaboration, and structured coding habits to manage AI + software projects effectively.
Create relational database schemas and understand how structured/unstructured data can be prepared, chunked, and retrieved to support AI-driven applications.
Use SQL to manipulate and retrieve data efficiently, while connecting outputs to retrieval pipelines that ground AI model responses.
Describe fundamental concepts such as LLMs, embeddings, and prompt templates, and analyze architectural patterns for integrating AI models into modern applications.
Entry Requirements
Able to code in at least one programming language and Git for version control, at a basic to intermediate level. At least an understanding of and ability to code programming fundamentals.
Applicants will be required to undergo a shortlisting process where they must share their résumé and complete a pre-course assessment. Our instructors and career consultants will review applicants to assess their suitability before deciding whether to shortlist them for the course
