About This Course

A collaborative prescribing practitioner is defined as a member of a multidisciplinary clinical team led by a medical practitioner and his/her scope of practice is a set of services performed as part of a team. The scope and services are defined in a Collaborative Practice Agreement (CPA), under the governance of the institution, according to national standards and guidelines. This course will empower pharmacists and Advanced Practice Nurses to practise at the top of their licence under their respective CPA, which will strengthen the provision of collaborative prescribing services across the nation's different healthcare clusters. Case-based discussions are used to assess clinical decision-making and the application or use of medical and pharmacotherapy knowledge with actual patients.

What You'll Learn

Learners would be able to acquire clinical analytical and arithmetic skills through case-based discussions by a clinical supervisor, along with peer-lead drug monograph discussion and various case studies, and a final Numeracy test, which refines their ability to prescribe collaboratively in a team. Upon completion of the course, these collaborative elements help cultivate a strong foundation that is applicable to each of their Collaborative Practice Agreement (CPA) when it comes to inter-professional work and ensure that high accuracy is met when calculating drug usage for their prospective patients. Through the course, the learner would be questioned about the care provided probing for reasons behind the work-up, diagnoses, interpretation of clinical findings and possible treatment plans.

Entry Requirements

"Advanced Practice Nurses (APNs):
must be working in an area with existing or potential need for Collaborative Prescribing service, and
must have identified a clinical supervisor who, together with his/her team, will provide supervision to the candidate during the clinical practicum

Pharmacists (PHAs):
must be at least 3-year post-pharmacist registration with experience in direct patient care setting and working in multidisciplinary / team-based practice for at least 1 year,
must be working in an area with existing potential need for Collaborative Prescribing service, and
must have identified a clinical supervisor who, together with his/her team, will provide supervision to the candidate during the clinical practicum"
