Basic Metrology and Measurement Quality Assurance
About This Course
This course is developed to address the growing need for data-driven capabilities in manufacturing, aligned to the emerging skill of Data Engineering within the context of metrology and inspection. As organisations advance towards Industry 4.0 and the digital economy, manufacturing operations increasingly rely on accurate, structured, and timely measurement data to support real-time quality monitoring, analytics, and decision-making.
In modern manufacturing environments, metrology and inspection functions are no longer limited to performing measurements, but are required to support the collection, validation, and preparation of measurement data for downstream use in digital systems. This includes ensuring that measurement data is reliable, structured, and suitable for integration into data pipelines used for process monitoring, quality control, and continuous improvement.
Designed for metrologists, calibration engineers, test engineers, mechanical engineers, quality assurance and process control engineers, and research and development engineers, this course equips learners with the competencies to review measurement performance, identify abnormal measurement behaviour, and perform structured troubleshooting to determine potential sources of error within measurement systems and processes. By developing these capabilities, learners will be better prepared to support data-ready measurement processes, contribute to reliable data pipelines, and enable consistent product and process quality in advanced manufacturing environments.
What You'll Learn
• LO1. Identify metrology recipes used to perform measurements related to metrological laboratories
• LO2. Manage metrology recipes and procedures to comply with International Standards, such as International Electrotechnical Commission Standards (IEC)
• LO3: Verify measurement performance using measurement uncertainty analysis
• LO4: Troubleshoot instrument abnormalities detected based on abnormalities in measurement result
• LO5: Determine follow-up actions required for measurement quality assurance
