Infographics with AI: From Data to Visual Story
About This Course
We are surrounded by more information than ever — yet the ability to make that information clear, compelling, and memorable remains a rare and valuable skill. This two-day course teaches participants how to transform complex data and written content into engaging infographics, supercharged by a new generation of AI tools that make the process faster and smarter.
Participants will learn how to use NotebookLM to synthesise and extract key insights from dense source material, and Napkin AI to automatically generate visual representations of ideas and data — reducing the gap between raw information and polished visual output. These AI capabilities are layered onto a foundation of solid infographic design principles, ensuring that participants understand not just how to use the tools, but when and why certain visual choices work.
This course is ideal for working professionals who regularly need to communicate data, research findings, reports, or complex processes to non-specialist audiences — including educators, communications and marketing staff, policy officers, analysts, and team leads. No prior design experience is required.
What You'll Learn
1. Analyse a given dataset, report, or body of text to identify the core narrative, key data points, and intended audience — using NotebookLM to accelerate the extraction and organisation of insights.
2. Distinguish between common infographic formats (statistical, process, timeline, comparison, geographic) and select the most appropriate format for a given communication need.
3. Apply fundamental visual design principles — including hierarchy, colour, iconography, typography, and whitespace — to enhance the clarity and impact of infographic layouts.
4. Generate initial visual structures and diagram suggestions using Napkin AI, and evaluate these outputs critically against design principles and communication intent.
5. Construct a complete, publication-ready infographic by integrating AI-generated visual elements with manual design decisions in a chosen design tool (Canva or equivalent).
6. Explain design choices made throughout the infographic creation process, demonstrating an understanding of how visual decisions serve the target audience and communication goal.
