About This Course

This course addresses the rapid integration of robotics and automation within Industry 4.0, specifically focusing on the deployment of specialized Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) as mobile robotic data-acquisition systems. Designed for inspection engineering personnel, maintenance professionals, and automation technicians, this course moves beyond basic drone flight to teach the strategic implementation of robotic systems in complex, indoor, and Global Positioning System (GPS)-denied environments.

Participants will develop essential skills in automated operation monitoring and digital asset digitization. Rather than focusing on a single hardware tool, the curriculum emphasizes how automated robotic technology is leveraged to execute risk-based inspection frameworks, mitigate human risk in hazardous industrial environments, and gather critical datasets for asset lifecycle management. Through a blend of Industry 4.0 principles and guided practical flight data-capture sessions, learners will understand how to transition traditional inspection methodologies into automated, digitally-driven inspection engineering workflows.

Across two days, learners will explore the unique challenges of confined-space operations, relevant safety considerations, and regulatory requirements for indoor UAV missions.

The second day focuses on practical application under the guidance of a certified trainer. Participants will learn proper flight planning, review real-world use cases, and practise core flight control techniques. Through structured exercises, participants will develop confidence in basic flight manoeuvres and safe operational practices specific to confined-space inspection scenarios.

What You'll Learn

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
• Evaluate and Implement Robotic Solutions: Analyze industrial site requirements to determine how automated robotic systems (UAVs) can optimize inspection workflows over traditional manual methods.
• Execute Automated Operation Monitoring: Synthesize real-time telemetry, robotic payload feeds, and system diagnostics to ensure safe, repeatable, and high-quality data capture in confined or hazardous infrastructure.
• Manage Inspection Engineering Risk: Apply risk-based monitoring principles to indoor robotic operations, identifying and mitigating specific environment-driven hazards to ensure automated system reliability.
• Leverage Data for Predictive Analysis: Establish standard workflows for data and information management, transforming raw sensor data collected by robotic platforms into actionable structural insights for predictive maintenance.
